Facts about Greger Nässén

Here are some facts about myself. (This is a translation of the Swedish page.) Please note that links in italics are to pages in Swedish.

Basic facts
I was born on September 3, 1960 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. I still live there, and so do my parents and my two brothers with families. Most of my relatives, however, live in the northern province of Jämtland.
Other essential (?) facts about myself: height 180 cm (5'11"), weight 77 kg (170lb), medium blond hair, blue eyes, single, non-smoker, vegetarian, has a driver's licence but no car, lives in a rented two-room flat.

Education
From 16 to 18 years of age, I went to compulsory upper secondary school. I followed a study programme of Humanities and had quite a few lessons in English, French, German and Latin. I graduated in 1979. After my military service I started on the Culture and Humanities programme at Stockholm University with English as my major. I wrote two papers on Norse influences on the dialects in Shetland and Orkney. Then I went on to postgraduate studies in English linguistics, but I haven't had the time to finish them...

Work

You see, I've been employed since 1992 by WM-data Education. In my work as a consultant I carry out information analyses and write and translate user interfaces and system texts. I first started in this business in 1988, when I came to Teknolänken, a small company of consultants specialised in linguistics and user-friendly documentation. This firm was later bought by WM-data, one of Sweden's largest IT consultant companies.

Earlier I used to work in the evenings as a messenger at the editorial office of Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's largest morning paper. In 1985, I was elected study organiser for two years by the local employees union. I've also had short "assignments" as school-choir leader, office assistant, course registrator, student advisor, talking-book reader and Jeopardy! winner.

Donaldism

I spend a lot of my spare time on my assignment as treasurer of NAFS(k), the National Donaldist Society of Sweden (quack), a very nice organisation for all people interested in Disney comics and films. The society was founded - more or less as a joke - by me and two of my class-mates almost twenty years ago. We had no idea what we started...

Other interests

...which I try to spend more time on, with little success:

Playing the piano - mostly classical stuff - and listening to my CD, LP and cassette collection.
Cycling to and from my office and at other times (weather permitting).
Genealogy. Member of the two biggest genealogy associations in Sweden: Genealogiska föreningen and Sveriges Släktforskarförbund.
Celtic languages and culture. Member of The Celtic League and the Swedish-Irish Society.
Reading books in my English library.
Swimming and working out, not too ambitiously, though.
Watching films on TV, cinema and my video cassettes and laser discs. Member of Cinemateket (a film club run by the Swedish Film Institute) and Stockholm Film Festival.
Exploring the Internet. Member of ABC-klubben, a club for Swedish computer buffs.
Playing INWO (Illuminati: New World Order), a trading card game of world domination.
Playing other party games like Swedish Scrabble, Swedish postal codes, Mah-jong and card games.
