Scrabble

In 1995 I took part in my first tournament in the very enjoyable crossword and board game Scrabble. The Swedish version of the game was called Alfapet then, but it has now the same name in Sweden as in most countries in the world. I have played 4-5 tournaments every year since then, including all Swedish championchips. My biggest success was the 2001 champs which I managed to win. Since then my rating has gradually gone down because I train so little. I'm a member of the Swedish Scrabble Association, where I'm one of the accountants and chairman of the wordlist committee.

In 2005 I arranged Butter Cup, the first and still biggest tournament in English Scrabble in Sweden. There were 15 participants, seven of which were top players from the United Kingdom. I've arranged a couple of English-language tournaments every year since then. The English tournaments give qualification points for Swedish representation at the World Scrabble Championship (WSC). Sweden competed in WSC for the first time in London in 2005, when Mårten Björkman represented Sweden. WSC is arranged every odd year, and in 2007 I got the chance to play for Sweden, this time in Mumbai in India.

If you can read Swedish, you can follow my blog Scrabbloggen where I write (not very often lately I'm afraid) about English Scrabble and my preparations for the 2007 WSC.
